Abstract: We develop the thermodynamic underpinnings of a two-dimensional volatility basis set (2-D-VBS) employing saturation concentration (<i>C</i><sup>o</sup>) and the oxygen content (O:C) to describe volatility, mixing thermodynamics, and chemical evolution of organic aerosol.
