Abstract: Now the weight of a single molecule of oxygen is supposed to be not far from 7.36 X 10-*3 grams so that the gram molecular weight would contain 4.3 X 1 0~3 molecules. If the gas were under normal conditions, o o C. and I atmosphere pressure, the pressure exerted by a single molecule would be-~'-I = 2.3 x 1 0-~4 atmospheres in a volume 4.3 x IOZJ of 22.4 liters, or 4.1 x 10-*4 atmospheres at 2 2 7 '. An equal volume of oxygen in equilibrium with nickel oxide at this temperature would exert a pressure, according… Show more
