Antioxidants: Scientific Literature Landscape Analysis

Abstract: Antioxidants are abundant in natural dietary sources, and the consumption of antioxidants has a lot of potential health benefits. However, there has been no literature analysis on this topic to evaluate its scientific impact in terms of citations. This study is aimed at identifying and analysing the antioxidant publications in the existing scientific literature. In this context, a literature search was performed with the Web of Science database. Full records and cited references of the 299,602 identified manus… Show more

“…The current literature analysis on lignan publications revealed the large publication shares from Asian countries, which were consistent with related bodies of literature such as antioxidants and curcumin (Yeung et al, 2019b;Yeung et al, 2019c). Examples of some highly cited original research papers recently published by Asian teams in the 2010s, without international collaborations, are discussed here.…”

“…Nitric oxide (NO) is considered to actively regulate several vital physiological functions including germination, growth, enzyme activity, responses to stresses and stress signaling [15,16]. Exogenous application of NO prevents the salinity-induced photosynthetic inhibition by neutralizing the accumulated ROS [17][18][19]. However, the excess can be toxic due to its radical nature.…”

“…Antioxidants are substances capable of retarding or inhibiting the oxidation processes of various atmospheric oxygen systems or reactive chemical species derived therefrom. Due to oxidative stress, the cell is damaged and the human body begins to age and face a number of serious diseases such as: diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular diseases [13][14][15][16][17][18]. The increased interest in the replacement of synthetic antioxidants from food with the natural ones has supported the search of plant sources and the choice of raw materials for new antioxidants identification.…”
