AIM: To determine and evaluate the features of highly cited articles (HCAs) in the ophthalmology category in the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-EXPANDED) from 1991 to 2020.
METHODS: The Web of Science Core Collection documents with at least 100 citations from their publication year until December 31, 2020, were evaluated as highly cited. The examined features were the distribution of yearly output and its average number of per publication, HCAs, authors, institutions, journals, and nations. The publication performance of nations and organizations was assessed using six publication indicators. The Y-index was employed to compare the research outputs of various authors.
RESULTS: Publications that had cited the most references were highly published in high-impact factor journals. The United States of America came out on top across all six publication indicators, and it was home to eight of the top 10 most productive institutions. The articles written by Breivik et al (2006) and Farrar et al (2001) were highly cited and had a significant impact in 2020. The authors had a higher number of highly cited articles published as corresponding authors than as first authors.
CONCLUSION: The findings of the present study highlight the current scope of global research in ophthalmology. The findings can help policy-makers and advisory groups of research centers to develop future policies. In addition, the findings can guide researchers in this field.
Background & Aim: Patient decision aids are detailed and personalized health education materials that assist patients in decision making. According to expert viewpoints, this study aimed to determine important factors in implementing the prenatal screening decision aid in Iran.
Methods & Materials: In this qualitative study, 24 experts, including seven obstetricians, four information scientists, five managers or policymakers, and eight midwives, were selected using purposive and snowball sampling approaches. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect the data between January 2020 and June 2020 in Tehran, Iran. A prenatal screening decision aid was presented to the participants, and we asked them to raise their concerns and thoughts regarding the factors influencing the implementation of patient decision aids. We used MAXQDA 10 and applied conventional content analysis for data analysis.
Results: Two organizational and personal factors themes were identified to implement Iran's prenatal screening decision aids.
Conclusion: We identified the viewpoints of experts regarding major factors in patient decision aids implementation for prenatal screening. Before implementing prenatal screening decision aids in Iran, it would be helpful to consider these organizational and personal factors. Prenatal screening decision aids can provide better information for pregnant women and strengthen their decision-making ability.
Background: Librarians need to provide innovative services to different target groups. Objectives: This study aimed to determine the innovation status in the central libraries of Iranian medical universities. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in 2020. The study population consisted of 67 managers of the central libraries in Iranian medical universities. Data were collected using a researcher-made questionnaire whose validity was confirmed by experts; its reliability was also confirmed with an alpha coefficient of 0.98. The data analysis was performed with descriptive and inferential statistics using SPSS version 24 software. Results: The mean innovation score in the studied libraries was 3.5 ± 0.74 in the dimension of organizational innovation and 3.2 ± 0.73 in service innovation, both of which were relatively desirable. However, the innovation level in the technological dimension was 2.7 ± 0.54, which was a relatively unfavorable situation. There were no significant relationships between gender (P = 0.88, 0.16, 0.17), age (P = 0.287, 0.708, 0.981), education degree (P = 0.561, 0.943, 0.935), work experience (P = 0.284, 0.656, 0.782), and education level (P = 0.605, 0.122, 0.033) and the types of innovation in medical libraries. Conclusions: In the digital era, libraries need to focus on innovation, redefine their plans, do strategic planning to change their roles, and take practical steps to provide services for their users’ needs.
Knowledge is one of the most important strategic resources in industrial organizations. Knowledge sharing is a mechanism to capture, disseminate, transfer, and apply useful knowledge. For these reasons, knowledge sharing has become a strategic issue as a source of funding for university research and as a policy tool for economic development for industrial organizations. Collaborations between universities and industrial organizations can play an important role in the areas of knowledge sharing. There are many factors that can affect collaboration between industrial firms and universities. This chapter begins with the description of the term knowledge. It discusses knowledge sharing and collaborations between universities and industrial organizations and the importance of communicational channels, especially information and communication technologies and university libraries. Finally, this chapter proposes a conceptual model for knowledge sharing collaborations between universities and industrial organizations.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
